One Pot Rasam Rice

This is one of the simplest recipe anyone can cook. The taste is so good and the process is very simple. Try this comfort food and let me know your comments.

Ingredients:

  1. Rice – 1 cup
  2. Toor dal – 4 tsp
  3. Pepper – 1/2 tsp
  4. Cumin – 1/2 tsp
  5. Tamarind – small lemon size
  6. Tomato – 1 big in size
  7. Garlic – 4 pods
  8. Sambar powder – 1/4 tsp
  9. Ghee – 1 tsp
  10. Curry leaves – a spring
  11. Chopped Coriander leaves – 2 tsp
  12. Salt – to taste

To temper:

  1. Ghee or oil – 1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  3. Red chilli – 1
  4. Asafoetida – a pinch
  5. Curry leaves – 1 spring

Pre-Preparation:

  1. Wash and soak Rice and dal together for 1 hour
  2. Soak tamaring in hot water and extract juice from it
  3. Grind pepper and cumin into a coarse mixture

Method:

  1. In a pressure cooker, add rice and dal and add 2.5 cups of water
  2. Add tamarind extract, pepper-cumin mixture, salt, sambhar powder to it
  3. Add chopped garlic and tomatoes, curry leaves and coriander leaves and ghee to it
  4. Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles
  5. Once the pressure releases, heat a pan and add items to temper
  6. Mix with the rice and serve it with any sidish

Notes:

  1. You can replace rasam powder instead of sambhar powder
  2. you can adjust the pepper cumin quantity as per your taste
  3. you can replace lemon juice with tamarind(in that case add lemon juice before tempering)
