Nellikai Rasam/ Amla Rasam/ Gooseberry Rasam

Nellikai Rasam is made using nellikai, pepper, cumin,green chilli. This rasam is tangy, spicy and is a treat to our taste buds. We can get Vitamin C from Amla , Do try this recipe

Preparation Time : 10 minutes

Cooking Time : 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. Amla/Nellikai/Gooseberry – 3 to 4 (based on the size)
  2. Pepper – 1 tsp
  3. Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  4. Green chilli – 1
  5. Cooked Toor dal -1/4 cup
  6. Tomato – 1
  7. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
  8. Salt – to taste
  9. Water – as required

To Temper:

  1. Ghee – 1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  3. Hing/Asafoetida – a pinch
  4. Red chilli or green chilli – 1
  5. Curry leaves and Coriander leaves – chopped 2 tsp

Pre-preparation:

  1. Deseed the nellikai and Cut the nellikai into fine pieces
  2. Grind nellikai, pepper, cumin and green chilli in a mixie jar to a fine paste

Method:

  1. In a vessel, add the grounded nellikai mixture, chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and add water
  2. cook for 5- 7 minutes in a medium flame
  3. Add salt and cooked dal to it
  4. Heat a small pan and add ghee and items to temper
  5. Add the tempering to the rasam and switch off the flame
  6. Serve this Rasam with hot rice
