Tiffin sambar without Dal/Onion Tomato kotsu

I learnt this recipe from my amma. She is an expert in doing this. It tastes exactly like tiffin sambar. It goes well with Idli, Dosa , Upma n Pongal. It’s very easy to make.Do try it once, you will like it for sure

Preparation time : 10 minutes

Cooking time : 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  1. Onions – 1 (big)
  2. Tomatoes – 2 (big)
  3. Brinjal – 1 (big) or 2 (small)
  4. Green chilli – 2 to 3
  5. Besan flour/Kadalai maavu – 2 tsp
  6. Tiffin sambar powder – 1 tsp
  7. oil – 3 tsp
  8. salt – to taste
  9. Curry leaves – 1 String
  10. chopped Coriander leaves – 1 tsp

To Temper:

  1. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  2. Urad dal split – 1/2 tsp
  3. Cumin /Jeera – 1/4 tsp
  4. Hing – pinch

Method:

  1. Heat a pressure cooker
  2. Add oil and items to temper one by one
  3. Add finely chopped onions and slit green chillies , curry leaves and saute well
  4. Add finely chopped tomatoes and Brinjal
  5. Add turmeric powder and sambar powder. Mix everything well
  6. Add besan flour and saute well with the mixture
  7. Add salt and water
  8. close the lid and cook it in medium flame for 1 whistle
  9. open the lid and garnish it with coriander leaves. serve it with your favourite tiffin item
