Rava Idli Recipe

Rava idli is one of the popular Indian breakfast . Making rava idli is very simple(not like traditional idli). We can made it in a jiffy. I used to make rava idli using readymade rava idli mix. Today I tried this in home for dinner and it came out super soft and tasty. I am going to share the recipe with you all.

Preparation Time : 10 minutes

Cooking Time : 10 minutes

Yields : 10 Idlies

Ingredients:

  1. Rava/suji/semolina – 1 cup(200 gms)
  2. curd – 3/4 cup( sour or not sour according to your taste, i added non-sour)
  3. Water – to adjust consistency
  4. Ginger – 2 tsp finely chopped
  5. Green chillies – 2 nos finely chopped
  6. Eno fruit salt – 1 tsp
  7. Salt – to taste

To temper:

  1. Oil – 1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
  3. Split urad dal – 1/2 tsp
  4. Chanal dal – 1/2 tsp
  5. Asafoetida – a pinch
  6. Cashews – 10 nos finely chopped
  7. Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp(optional)
  8. curry leaves – a spring

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds
  2. once it splutters, add items one by one in to temper list and roast nicely
  3. Add rava to it and roast it nicely. Don’t burn it
  4. switch off the flame and cool the mixture
  5. Once it is cooled, add curd to it and add salt. Mix it well, add water to adjust the consistency
  6. Let the batter sit for 10 minutes
  7. After that , take the Idli pan and fill the bottom with water
  8. Grease the idli moulds with oil/ghee and get it ready
  9. open the batter and check the consistency. The batter should be like Idli batter consistency. If not, then add little water
  10. Add Eno salt and mix well. this salt makes the batter frothy
  11. Fill the Idli moulds with batter and cook it in medium flame for 7-10 minutes
  12. To check if the Idli is done, insert a knife or back of spoon to idli, it comes out clean
  13. Switch off the flame and wait for 5 minutes.
  14. Remove the Idlis from mould and serve it with your favourite chutney/sambar/ Idli podi.
