Matta Rice Mung Bean Porridge/ matta arisi pacha payir kanji

This Porridge is made with coconut milk and it tastes too good. This can be served as breakfast or light dinner. My Mother-in -law shared this recipe with me and I am going to share it with all. Here is the recipe.

Preparation time : 10 minutes

Cooking time : 30 minutes

  1. Kerala Matta rice – 1 cup (150 gms)
  2. Mung bean – 1/3 cup (50 gms)
  3. Coconut milk – 1.5 cups( both thick and thin)
  4. Jaggery – 4 tsp (optional)
  5. Salt – a pinch


  1. Wash rice and mung bean well
  2. Add it to pressure cooker and add 4 cups of water
  3. Pressure cook it in medium flame and cook for 3 whistles
  4. switch off the flame and wait till pressure release
  5. Open the lid and mash the mixture well
  6. Add salt and coconut milk, add water to adjust the consistency and keep it in medium flame, but dont boil it
  7. Switch off the flame, add jaggery and serve it
